2.78 million people died last year due to workplace accidents and work-related ill-health

It’s an unacceptable number, and hard to wrap the mind around, so let’s break it down:

It’s 7,616 people dead every day,

it’s 317 every hour,

it's 5 people since you accessed this site.
It's almost one fatality every ten seconds.

We can’t fix everything all at once.

But we can do something right now.

Just do something.

Just one thing.

The Idea

If we all do just one thing, just improve workplace safety by one percent, then that’s 28,000 people that get to go home without harm, instead of ending up dead – each year.  28,000 husbands, wives, partners, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, friends, and co-workers. 28,000 humans.

The Japanese concept of Kaizen, the idea of incremental change – one small thing at a time – is what we’re talking about here.  The compounding effect of trying to get 1% better each day is huge – it’s a 3,800% improvement in just one year.  In simple terms, that’s a 40 times improvement on where you are right now.

This book is your toolkit: 142 of the world’s most thoughtful leaders, right here just for you.

Read them all, read just one, skip some, read what you prefer. Just do something. One thing. One idea. One percent safer.

Let’s make the world a safer place, one percent at a time.

The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (‘IOSH’) reports that benefits of a safer workplace include a happier and healthier workforce, lower staff turnover, improved productivity and a better corporate reputation.

But there’s more than that: the National Safety Council in the USA and the Center for Disease Control (‘CDC’) reckon that for every dollar spent on improving workplace safety, the Return-On-Investment is between four and six times, whilst IOSH quantify ROI at around 120%.

“In a world that is still gripped in a pandemic and is facing a global crisis of climate change, what could be more welcome than a new and creative approach to working on our collective survival by taking a varied look at the universal problems of how to improve safety in our work and daily life. This book is brimming with powerful and useful ideas presented in a novel and very readable format.”
